In an interview with Metal-Rules.com, KISS frontman Paul Stanley has said that some of the band’s 80s and 90s back catalogue will be making its way into the upcoming Sonic Boom Over Europe Tour Set.
That noise you can hear is the sound of the KISS Army collectively dancing in celebration.
“Q: How about the 80/90’s material. There are lots of fans in Europe who are huge fans of the eighties and nineties KISS material. Will there be songs included from that period as well?
A: I’m sure “Crazy Nights” will be in the set and “God Gave Rock & Roll to You”. It’s really hard to cover everything from the beginning. So it means we have to leave out some songs. We can’t just keep adding songs. It’s great when people say “how about doing this one or that one” so ok then, what will be taken out of the show then?”

All at FANCORE our already pumping our fists in triumph at the possibility of hearing ‘Crazy Nights’ or ‘God Gave Rock & Roll To You’, but what about the rest of you? Do you want those in the setlist or do you have other ideas?
Steven Tyler's search for alternative employment didn't start too well.
Mammoth rock gods Aerosmith have announced plans to replace singer Steven Tyler, and quickly. Guitarist Joe Perry confirmed this in an interview with news agency QMI ”We’ll start having some auditions, making some phone calls. Hopefully, we’ll have found a new singer by the summer, and Aerosmith will be able to go back out on the road”.
In the interview he detailed the problems preventing Tyler from touring with the band at the present time “He [Tyler] has to have leg surgery and foot surgery and it’s basically going to take him out of the picture for about a year, year and a half. So, in the meantime, the rest of the band wants to play. And I want to play with the other guys in Aerosmith. So the four of us are just making our plans. We’re gonna find somebody to get in there and fill that spot”
We here at Fancore are huge Aerosmith fans, and we can’t help but ask what the big rush is? For a band that doesn’t exactly take on a breakneck workload these days, sitting this year out and letting Steven recover wouldn’t end the world would it? What do you guys think? Should Aerosmith have gone the side-project route, or should they not let one man’s absence influence the band? Give us a shout on the comments section.
After the success of Beatles: Rock Band it seems that the people at Harmonix/MTV are set to unleash a new band-centric title in teh hugely successful rhythm game franchise in the form of a full Green Day: Rock Band game scheduled for 2010.
The following statement has been released by MTV:
“This game will feel like a natural extension of Green Day and their music that will deepen the fans’ connection to the band and their history,” said Alex Rigopulos, CEO and co-founder of Harmonix Music Systems. “Fans will be able to enjoy some of the greatest songs from the Green Day catalogue in this standalone game or via Rock Band due to full export capability. We are thrilled to work with Green Day to revisit key moments from their career, including their likenesses, content and imagery, through our innovative form of musical interaction.”
Besides confirming a global release in 2010 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii, the the track list will be fully exportable, allowing you to play the songs or Rock Band 1 or 2. This exportable option is only for PS3 and Xbox 360, not Wii, however. “
With the recent Green Day global takeover, it isn’t a surprise that one of the most successful and mainstream acts of the decade are to follow the Fab Four’s footsteps. Will you be buying the game or do you think that bands like Led Zeppelin should be first in line above the pop punks?
The just released teaser trailer for the game can be viewed above.
Seattle Grunge Godfathers Pearl Jam have been announced as headliners for next year’s Hard Rock Calling, taking place in London’s Hyde Park.
Following the footsteps of acts like Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, Neil Young, The Killers, Dave Mathews Band, The Pretenders, The Gaslight Anthem who played the 2009 show, Pearl Jam will headline the Friday on 25th June.
Tickets are currently on sale, with other headlines and the full line up to be announced at another date.
After bagging ‘Best New Festival’ at the annual festival awards, Sonisphere have announced that the festival will be returning for 2010, extending to a three day event and boasting a mighty impressive line up.
Iron Maiden and Rammstein are confirmed as headliners for the Knebworth festival, with Alice Cooper, Slayer, Anthrax, Iggy and The Stooges, The Cult and Motley Crue also on the bill. With Metallica announcing a headline slot for Sonisphere in Poland, the thrash legends are heavily rumoured to be the third headliner for the UK dates.
The full statement from the festival organisers is as follows:
“Alice Cooper, Anthrax, The Cult, Iggy & The Stooges and Slayer will be making their only UK festival appearances at Sonisphere whilst Motley Crue will perform their only UK show of 2010.Tickets are currently on sale. Other bands heavily rumoured have ranged from Heaven and Hell to Foo Fighters, keep up to date with all your festivals here at FANCORE. Will you be buying tickets?
Slayer will make their welcome return to a festival stage in the UK after a three year absence at Knebworth with fellow ‘big four’ thrash kings Anthrax returning with John Bush back in the fold.
Guitarist Scott Ian says: “God-damn we couldn’t be more thrilled about being a part of Sonisphere 2010!!!! We are still buzzing from our insane show at Knebworth last summer and are drooling over the fact that we are a part of this history making festival!! What an amazing Xmas present for Anthrax and our fans. See you all very soon!!”
Flying in from LA for their only UK show of 2010, Motley Crue will be bringing with them their sleaze-drenched rock with The Cult also making an exclusive UK festival appearance and having marked England’s place on the global rock map, they remain one of the few UK hard-rock bands to have truly broken in the US. Talking of legends, Iggy & The Stooges are also sure to make their presence felt at Knebworth this summer!
Sonisphere is set to be an even bigger monster in 2010, with the extra day of music added. Friday 30th July will see the festivities getting started with a Rocky Horror Show theme, and Alice Cooper – the godfather of theatrical rock – suitably closing the evening on the Saturn stage at his only UK festival performance of 2010.
Fancy dress is expected and encouraged. In addition to the acts on Saturn, there will be bands performing on two tented stages from 6pm until 11pm.
Regular campers will have access to the campsite from 12pm on the Friday, but for a mere £5, the festival campsite will open for early campers at 3pm on Thursday 29th July, with Bohemia village open from 6pm Thursday right through until 3am Sunday morning, for non-stop fun with white knuckle rides, dodgems, arcades, comedy, massage, bars, market stalls, and cafes to chill out in.
There is much more to come with dozens more bands to be announced in the new year – metal, rock, hardcore, thrash, classic, indie, punk, you name it, Sonisphere will have it. From well-established rock icons to the hottest new names, if they rock and are worth seeing, they will be playing at Knebworth.”
Thrash gods Slayer will be shredding shit up on Wednesday 4 November’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! The band will be promoting the upcoming release of “World Painted Blood”, is out the day before on American Recordings.
Southern metallers Maylene and the Sons of Disaster are venturing between the ropes with a string of collaborations with World Wrestling Entertainment. The band’s single “Step Up (I’m On It)” has been chosen as the theme song for the WWE’s Bragging Right’s pay-per-view. The track will also appear on the Smackdown vs Raw 2010 video game.
As if this isn’t enough chair-swinging, guitar-toting tomfoolery, Maylene have also been commissioned to write a song for the Unified World Tag Team Champions Chris Jericho and the Big Show. Expect to hear the tune “Crank The Walls Down” on Raw and Smackdown soon.
Former Black Flag singer and Rollins Band leader Henry Rollins has announced an extensive UK spoken word tour early next year. The burly vocalist rarely minces his words so these dates will be a treat.

Sonisphere bosses have given UK metallers the news we were waiting for: the newbie travelling-festival will be hitting the UK for it’s second year next Summer. The Soni team released the following:
“It’s official! Sonisphere 2010 will take place on July 31 and August 01.
Thank you again everyone for coming to the first Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth Park in August 2009. We are really excited to announce that the first steps are being made to map out our 2010 tour across Europe and with that we are pleased to confirm our UK dates. This time the party hits Knebworth on Saturday July 31 and Sunday August 01.”
All that is left to be seen is who is going to headline the two-day event. After a blistering weekend with Linkin Park and Metallica, rumours are flying that Iron Maiden, AC/DC, Muse and even Aerosmith will take to the stages this year- whatever happens we’ll see you at the front!
Anyone with a pair of ears, and a passion for rock will have heard KISS’ company line on Sonic Boom. For what seems like centuries, self-styled bass-demon Gene Simmons and velvet-voiced love-marksman Paul Stanley have extolled the “meat and potatoes” style of the upcoming album, boasting about it’s natural place in the pantheon of past glories Love Gun and Rock And Roll Over. Well paint me white and call me a Catman because the aging pyrotechnic-enthusiasts have pulled it off.
The newly-refurbished KISS juggernaut rolls into view with Modern Day Delilah. The stomping opener removes any doubt that the band would be forgoing modern bells and whistles, with not a hint of a vocoder disrupting Stanley’s trademark wail. Classic Paul bleeds effortlessly into classic Gene, with Russian Roulette featuring a godzilla-scaled chorus and bombastic if somewhat childish lyrics.
It is in this impressive vein that the album continues. Not everything meets the high watermark, Yes I Know (Nobody’s Perfect) is a serviceable but forgettable mid-pacer for example, but for a band whose form fluctuated so violently during their patchy 1980s run, this release is laudably consistent.
Never Enough is the finest song this band have written since the Revenge album seventeen years ago, a flawless ode to not being held down. The ideal soundtrack to those days spent clicking your pen and wanting to smack your boss and/or lecturer. I’m an Animal sees Simmons milk his Demon character for all it’s considerable worth with a metal-plated cut that sits comfortably in the God of Thunder/Unholy lexicon.
In the grandest KISS tradition, it isn’t just the Demon and the Starchild who step up to the microphone. On All for the Glory, drummer and current Catman Eric Singer turns in a driving rocker, his throaty croon adds an earthier shade to the band’s sound. Meanwhile lead guitarist and studio album debutant Tommy Thayer quietens the whispers accusing him of being simply a hired gun (or axe as the case may be) with an impressive effort. Evoking the 80s glam metal scene of which his own Black ‘N’ Blue were a part, When Lightning Strikes is a creditable piece.
There is only one way to end a KISS album, and that is with an Optimus Prime-sized anthem, in this case Say Yeah. Say yeah? If KISS are your bag you’ll be screaming it. If they aren’t, this album isn’t going to change your mind. If you’re the latter, take solace that it won’t be long before Gene Simmons endorses some earplugs.
‘Ello stranger! No we aren’t dead, yes we still like music and okay, fine we’ll keep writing about it for your pleasure. Where have we been? Well myself and Harley nodded off in a drunken stupor after Sonisphere and have woke up to find the site hasn’t been updated.
So screw it, we’re back and over the coming weeks and months we will be bringing hot shit such as a review of the new KISS album: Sonic Boom, an on-the-scene report from Enter Shikari levelling the Birmingham Academy and in November, a full 3-day rundown of the Hellfire Festival. We’ll also be the first and only place you need to be for the best rock, metal and punk news. Wanna read about AC/DC without skimming through the Kings of Leon articles? Then step through the doors my friends.
Fancore is back, and the revolution won’t be televised, but it will be blogged about.
The Hottest Band In The World, KISS, have posted the first promo shot of the band’s newly designed costumes.
The new costumes mark the band’s latest era, coinciding with the eagerly anticipated new album, Sonic Boom which unless you’ve been living underground for the past year, you will be well aware is the first release of new material in over a decade and can be yours from October 5th.
KISS will be rocking their updated threads on the current World Alive/35 tour which is making its way across the USA all the way into late December. For dates and to listen to the first single, ‘Modern Day Delilah’, head onto KissOnline.com.
Thoughts on the new costumes? We have to say that the small tweaks are a pleasant surprise, with Tommy Thayer’s lightning pants being particularly snazzy.
After announcing two surprise shows at The Roxy theatre in LA this week, NJ megastars My Chemical Romance delighted fans the world over by debuting three new songs from the bands currently untitled fourth album.
You can catch your first look at ‘Death Before Disco’ above and songs ‘The Drugs’ and ‘Kiss The Ring’ below.
The band are currently working with producer of the moment Brendan O’Brien on the much-coveted follow-up to 2006′s The Black Parade, with no clear indication of how much is completed and when you’ll be able to get your hands on it. Regardless of the date, if the new songs are anything to go by, the new album will be the heaviest and loudest to date. We’ll keep you posted.
Lock up your daughters, your mother, grandmother, brothers and sisters. Don your leathers and for god’s sake do not leave the house without half a bottle of hairspray and an appropriately metal-style headband. Orange County Punk icons The Offspring have unveiled the new video for upcoming single “Shit Is Fucked Up” (Censored to the slightly less poetic “Stuff Is Messed Up“), which you can view above.
The single is the band’s third to be taken from eighth studio album ‘Rise And Fall, Rage And Grace’ and also provides the title for the band’s upcoming World tour, which makes a quick stop in the UK this August for London and Manchester shows. Be sure to get your tickets to truly marvel in Dexter Holland and co’s legendary brand of punk rock.
Frontman John Sykes has parted ways with classic Rockers Thin Lizzy. The band’s management confirmed the split to Blabbermouth. This leaves long-serving guitarist Scott Gorham as the only member to have featured in the band during Lizzy’s original tenure fronted by Phil Lynott, as Sykes played guitar on the band’s final studio album and two live albums during their “classic” era.
Gorham has made a statement on the matter:
It’s been a very tough time of late for myself and the band, firstly with drummer Tommy Aldridge‘s injury and now the subsequent decision for John and the rest of the group to go their separate ways. I can only apologize to everyone who has supported us over the years, but we will be back up to full speed soon.”
Gorham intends to outline the group’s future plans soon. Thin Lizzy have postponed all future live dates, and will be unable to play the Sonisphere Festival in the UK in August.
ex-KISS guitarist/Rock legend Ace Frehley has nailed down a release date for his long-awaited new album entitled “Anomaly” Space Ace’s new record will be released on September 15th. Frehley recently explained the direction the album would be taking to Billboard saying :
“Basically, I’m trying to get back into the mindset I was in when I did my first solo record [1978's 'Ace Frehley']. That record seemed to have all the elements everybody liked — a real cool instrumental, a hit single, some real heavy rockers, a nice variety of different genres of music”
As devoted KISS army soldiers, we here at Fancore can’t wait to hear what Ace can come up with on the new record. And with his former band’s new opus also set to drop in September, it will be a fine month for us black and white paint-wearers indeed.
Modern-day rock heroes My Chemical Romance have issued fans with some much-needed updates on how the first stages of recording are going. The NJ quintet are currently into the first week of tracking their fourth studio album, set with the unenviable task of following 2006′s multi-platinum larger-than-life rock opera The Black Parade. And during all of this, lead-guitarist Ray Toro has been kind enough to blog daily updates on official website MyChemicalRomance.com:
“Day 3 of tracking: Things are still motoring along. Bob [Bryar] is playing great, so we’re continuing the fast pace. Great vibe here at the studio, Brendan is a lot of fun to work with, and is very focused and energetic. Rest of the band is playing great too. The time in rehearsals really paid off, as we’re getting a good idea of what songs will sound like when therest of tracking is done.”
“I can’t say enough how happy I am with the band. The roughs sound UNBELIEVABLE, its crazy to me how much better and tighter as a band we’ve gotten. It makes me feel really good in the age of “digital performers” that we could go in and track live and still have it sound amazing…”
Toro blogged as recently as yesterday noting: “After a few days of tracking guitars and bass, G has moved on to vocals for a few songs. Everything is turning out great.”
With the band working as quickly as they seem to be, we could definitely be looking at a release before the year is out! We may even get a sneak preview of the new album live when MCR play SummerSonic in Japan this August.
Anyone still worried that the new album won’t be as good as previous efforts, never fear, guitarist Frank Iero issued this on his Official Twitter account: “Our new record is probably going to ruin all of your lives. prepare. Load up on canned goods and distilled water fuckers your gonna need it.” Sounds exactly like our sort of record!
Green Day have posted their brand new video for the too-good-to-be-true single “21 Guns” over at their official myspace- Myspace.com/GreenDay. For those of us in the UK, you can check out the video RIGHT HERE.
The single marks the trio’s second release from possibly the greatest album of 2009 so far, “21st Century Breakdown”. What are you thoughts on the new vid?
Legendary Metallers Fear Factory have had to sadly pull out of the Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth, UK. This incarnation of the band would have reunited vocalist Burton C Bell with guitarist Dino Cazares with the band completed by legendary ex-Testament and Death drummer Gene Hoglan and Fear Factory’s current bassist Byron Stroud.
However legal wranglings have ensued over the use of the name, as Bell and Stroud are the only ones entitled legally to use the name, along with pre-reunion guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers and drummer Raymond Herrera.
Sonisphere had this to say on their official Twitter page:
“Good news is that we have an extra main stage band to announce. Bad news Fear Factory just pulled out (no that is not a euphemism)”
KISS frontman Paul Stanley and bassist Gene Simmons have released some more snatches of info on the band’s first studio album in 11 years. The Starchild had this to say on Kissonline.
“We’re about four days from finishing the new KISS album. Eleven tracks, and it IS everything I’ve told you. It IS classic. It IS all written within the band. And IT ROCKS BIG TIME! Tommy and Eric both handle lead vocals. The songs, sound and playing will knock your socks off. You will all be as proud and excited as we all are. Oh…and WAIT till you see the cover! We ARE just getting started!”
Demon and reality TV star Gene added this today
headed off to the recording studio to do some vocals on the new KISS STUDIO ALBUM (we’ll tell you the title later).

Exciting stuff, this just might be Fancore’s most anticipated release of the year, tell us what you think!
UK Dancecore mob Enter Shikari are taking the world by storm, one sweaty frenzy of a show at a time and with the release of Common Dreads it looks like their hold on the planet will do anything but loosen. Shikari boys Rou (vocals) and Rory (guitar) wax lyrical on their mind-blowing new album, keeping up the DIY ethic in music and making it to Edith Bowman’s playlist.
Your success has paved the way for a number of other rock bands influenced by electronic music to gain mainstream attention. How do you feel about these bands using a similar style to you?
Rou Reynolds (Vocals): It’s good to experiment definitely. At the end of the day you should play music you enjoy, whatever texture or mood that brings. It doesn’t always work with everyone but it’s good to try.
Do you feel that these bands are directly copying you?
Rou: I suppose there are definitely a lot of bands that do ‘Mothership’ sounding beatdowns with sort of a trance synth over the top. The amount of standard sounding Metalcore bands alone that we’ve toured with, especially in America have been playing the same stuff.
Rory Clewlow (Guitar): It puts us off a bit, it’s a bit soul destroying hearing the same sort of music every night.
Rou: I don’t think we’ve got any pressure really.
Rory: I guess if we identified ourselves as a band which was original, and did this “different” thing then it would probably be threatening but I guess we’ve always just done it cause that’s what we want to do. We don’t compare ourselves to anyone really we just do our own thing.
Has it been refreshing to play intimate, scaled-down shows this year?
Rory: Last year was really good ‘cause we did lots of smaller shows and then the year before that we did the big festival seasons. This year we’re going to be doing festivals again but we’re throwing in some smaller shows for a bit of variety cause it’s never good to get stuck doing the same thing over and over again.
How did the recording process for upcoming album Common Dreads go?
Rou: By the time we got into the recording studio it was pretty smooth from there on out. A lot of things changed that we didn’t think would, like song structures got played about with and all sorts of alterations happened. The only time it got a bit hairy was at the beginning when we started sorting out the riffs, with crazy four-part harmonies in the background! (laughs) I guess when we started labelling the different riffs and ideas and putting them into categories we were sort of like “whoa” we’ve got this massive mission ahead of us to make sense of all these ideas and put them together. But once we organised it, it was fairly plain sailing.
Is the direction of the new album radically different from Take to the Skies?
Rory: There’s definitely progression in the way it sounds. This is the first time on a record where we’ve had a lot of time to experiment. I think we developed as songwriters and players. And lyrically we are more direct; we say what we are thinking rather than shrouding stuff in metaphor.
Rou: I still feel that the first album is almost a live album, we just went into the studio, did it in two weeks, we just thrashed it out. We didn’t really experiment or work on it at all in the studio. This time there was time to play about and develop the songs. This really feels like our first album in a way.
Do you think that you now have more to say?
Rory: Well I don’t think we’ve ever been the type of band to hold back (laughs). I think if we were then the first album wouldn’t sound like it does, it would sound like The Maccabees.
What were your main musical influences going into this album?
Rou: We really need to start making a list for that question (laughs). So much stuff. Hardcore was still very much an essential theme. ‘Sick of it All’ being my favourite Hardcore band from day one really.
Rory: I’ll chuck Radiohead in there, and Rage Against the Machine.
Rou: Biffy Clyro. A lot of softer stuff like Jose Gonzalez, Regina Spektor. Dance-wise is more genres, like Drum ‘n’ Bass and Dubstep have been a big influence but then again so has House, so has Trance. Hardcore and Happy Hardcore, that whole side of dance.
Rory: It’s like every song brings something new to the table. It’s kind of hard to pinpoint any direct, main influences.
Rou: Even UK Hip Hop like Lowkey, The One Taste Collective which is a collective of all sorts of musicians and poets. Is that enough? (laughs)
You mentioned Dubstep there, a genre that has come into the mainstream more since your last album. How have you used Dubstep on the new album?
Rou: The idea was to have interludes, like on the last album, not full songs. Dub and Dubstep were sort of a big influence so we decided to make them actual songs with the whole band playing it rather than just me playing it on electronics. It sounds really cool but it took a lot of work, especially on Chris’ (Batten, Bassist) bass set-up. It’s ridiculous now (smiles), it’s completely computerised, digitalised. Some of the sounds he’s getting are just awesome. Taking that to a live scenario is really cool.
How have the tracks from Common Dreads sounded in the live setting so far?
Rou: I’ve been pleasantly surprised really. As a fan of a band, if they play something new I’d kind of take a step back from dancing, to listenand watch them play it. A lot of people seem to be going nuts for [the new songs].
Rory: A lot of what people come to the live shows for is the energy, then they go home and listen to the CD to nitpick the music. I guess that’s just our fans that mainly do that though.
Another festival you played recently was the Radio One Big Weekend, do you think having major radio backing has helped you as a band?
Rory: Exposure on Radio One is one of the best things that can happen as a band. It’s the way to get music out to totally random people. To be honest I don’t really listen to Radio One a lot, because I don’t like a lot of what’s on it. Playing the Big Weekend, you would look out at the crowd and you could tell it wasn’t really all our fans. It’s all giveaway tickets at that festival, it’s not people who normally go to gigs so it was good for us.
Rou: I think it’s that whole “non-music fan” Radio One audience that just listen to the radio for their fix of…
Rory: (interrupting) Lady Gaga (both laugh).
Rou: It’s good to introduce them to…I don’t want to sound like too much of a twat but good sorts of…bands. Radio One to be fair have all the specialist shows, like Zane Lowe’s really good he plays loads of new stuff, and they’ve got the Rock Show and the Punk Show so it’s great. But for us (new single) Juggernauts has been played in the middle of the day which is something I never though I’d hear. Us on Edith Bowman! (laughs) It’s weird as hell but it’s cool.
As a band you have always held DIY ethics, how much longer do you think you can stay on your own record label?
Rou: I think the way the music industry is going, every minute a band says they are doing a different deal and saying, “this is the future!” We’ve changed distributors for this album and we’re going to plug in to a few more marketing people, but I think the way we run ourselves will always be the same. I couldn’t see us selling away our copyright or something like that. That shit just scares me!
Rory: It doesn’t really make much sense to us to sign a standard old-school record deal.
With yourselves, Gallows and Your Demise, do you think that Hertfordshire may be the new home of Hardcore?
Rou: (laughs) When we were growing up literally all I listened to rock-wise, apart from big bands like Rage Against the Machine was bands from out local scene.
Rory: All our bands have taken influence from each other, if you know the St Albans Hardcore scene and listen to us and Gallows and Your Demise you’ll definitely hear the influence.
Rou: There’s so many other bands, like Sikth, Cry for Silence, Incoherence. There was a really huge scene around Watford, Hatfield and St Albans.
(At this point drummer Rob Rolfe walks in, admonishes his laptop for not charging, before politely apologising, exclaiming “shit, you’re in an interview” and then leaving the room. Nice guy.)
Rou: Ourselves and Gallows came along after a few years, and now Your Demise as well. It seems to be kicking off again.
Can you recommend any new bands to our readers?
Rory: Obviously Your Demise. Fell Silent, we’ve toured with them three or four times. They are our mates but they are also an awesome band. A bit like, they’ll hate me for saying this, but a little bit like Meshuggah. The get compared to them all the time.

‘We’ve always really looked up to Nero as drum and bass producers, and felt they could do a great job with Juggers. He really accentuates the euphoria of the tune and rivals any big dance floor club banger with this!’
