After bagging ‘Best New Festival’ at the annual festival awards, Sonisphere have announced that the festival will be returning for 2010, extending to a three day event and boasting a mighty impressive line up.
Iron Maiden and Rammstein are confirmed as headliners for the Knebworth festival, with Alice Cooper, Slayer, Anthrax, Iggy and The Stooges, The Cult and Motley Crue also on the bill. With Metallica announcing a headline slot for Sonisphere in Poland, the thrash legends are heavily rumoured to be the third headliner for the UK dates.
The full statement from the festival organisers is as follows:
“Alice Cooper, Anthrax, The Cult, Iggy & The Stooges and Slayer will be making their only UK festival appearances at Sonisphere whilst Motley Crue will perform their only UK show of 2010.Tickets are currently on sale. Other bands heavily rumoured have ranged from Heaven and Hell to Foo Fighters, keep up to date with all your festivals here at FANCORE. Will you be buying tickets?
Slayer will make their welcome return to a festival stage in the UK after a three year absence at Knebworth with fellow ‘big four’ thrash kings Anthrax returning with John Bush back in the fold.
Guitarist Scott Ian says: “God-damn we couldn’t be more thrilled about being a part of Sonisphere 2010!!!! We are still buzzing from our insane show at Knebworth last summer and are drooling over the fact that we are a part of this history making festival!! What an amazing Xmas present for Anthrax and our fans. See you all very soon!!”
Flying in from LA for their only UK show of 2010, Motley Crue will be bringing with them their sleaze-drenched rock with The Cult also making an exclusive UK festival appearance and having marked England’s place on the global rock map, they remain one of the few UK hard-rock bands to have truly broken in the US. Talking of legends, Iggy & The Stooges are also sure to make their presence felt at Knebworth this summer!
Sonisphere is set to be an even bigger monster in 2010, with the extra day of music added. Friday 30th July will see the festivities getting started with a Rocky Horror Show theme, and Alice Cooper – the godfather of theatrical rock – suitably closing the evening on the Saturn stage at his only UK festival performance of 2010.
Fancy dress is expected and encouraged. In addition to the acts on Saturn, there will be bands performing on two tented stages from 6pm until 11pm.
Regular campers will have access to the campsite from 12pm on the Friday, but for a mere £5, the festival campsite will open for early campers at 3pm on Thursday 29th July, with Bohemia village open from 6pm Thursday right through until 3am Sunday morning, for non-stop fun with white knuckle rides, dodgems, arcades, comedy, massage, bars, market stalls, and cafes to chill out in.
There is much more to come with dozens more bands to be announced in the new year – metal, rock, hardcore, thrash, classic, indie, punk, you name it, Sonisphere will have it. From well-established rock icons to the hottest new names, if they rock and are worth seeing, they will be playing at Knebworth.”

Sonisphere have unveiled a brand new third stage for the Knebworth-based festival, boasting debut UK performances from Slipknot members, a batch of new bands, a comedy stage and even a cinema.
‘Bohemia Village’ will be open on Thursday afternoon, available to all Sonisphere ticket holders and continuing into the wee hours of the morning. The third stage will be headlined by Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, aswell as ‘Knot Clown Shawn Crahan’s side project, Dirty Little Rabbits. More bands confirmed for Bohemia include Cancer Bats, Attack! Attack!, Rolo Tomassi, The Ataris and The Chapman Family.
Sonisphere have confirmed that all acts on the third stage will not conflict musically with any bands playing on the main stages, meaning you can squeeze in Corey Taylor before watching Metallica headline. Aswell as the new acts, Sonisphere have announced that Bohemia will include a ‘fairground of the damned’, a cinema playing ‘rock-friendly films’ aswell as a Jagermeister Rock Karaoke. If that wasn’t enough, throughout the day the village will host the Monster Energy Drink Ball Of Steel Stunt Show featuring motorcycle freestyling and if extreme sports isn’t your bag a plethora of comedy acts have been added to keep you laughing your hangover off.
Bohemia will also house the previously mentioned Guitar Hero: Metallica Experience which will give all you wannabes a chance to perform on Sonisphere’s main stage and emulate Metal monsters James, Kirk, Lars and Rob (and Jason Newsted).
Speaking to the official website, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor said he is “very excited to be a part of this festival. It’ll be the first show of its kind I’ve ever done in the UK, and I think there are many fans who’ve waited long enough to see it.”
The planners are definitely attempting to make Sonisphere more than just a bunch of bands on a stage, has this ‘Moulin Rouge meets Mad Max’ type extravaganza lured you into getting a ticket?

Former Armoured Saint and Judas Priest frontman Tim “Ripper” Owens has released a huge sounding slab of metal chaos over at his Myspace page. To hear some of the finest pipes in metal wailing over some shred guitars, get your bad selves over to www.myspace.com/timripperowens to hear “Starting Over”
The track is off his upcoming album “Play My Game” which is set top feature contributions from former KISS axeman Bruce Kulick, ex-Megadeth four-stringer Dave Ellefson and current Dio member Rudy Sarzo.

Megadeth frontman/physical embodiment Dave Mustaine has vowed: “I’ll be in the Hall Of Fame one way or the other”, aswell as speaking out on many other subjects including the direction of his band’s new album and his conversations with Metallica‘s mercurial sticksman Lars Ulrich.
The troubled Thrasher sounded remarkably comfortable in his own skin talking to HeadbangersBlog, saying ”I love the new record. It’s more along the lines of the middle of ‘Rust In Peace’ and middle of ‘Countdown To Extinction’. It’s definitely the conclusion of ‘United Abominations’, if not one up on it.” With those three albums numbering among the best not just in the Deth‘s career, but in metal history, it bodes well for their latest opus.
Speaking of his one time bandmate/long time thorn-in-the-side, Lars Ulrich he said: ”I was just talking to Ulrich the other day on the phone, and asking me to go to Hall Of Fame— and although we have differing opinions on what person should be inducted for it or not, it didn’t turn out that he felt that I should be inducted, so I passed — but I talked to him.”

Thrash Metal legends Metallica were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame last night, performing onstage as a five piece band with ex-bassist Jason Newsted. Performances of “Enter Sandman” and “Master Of Puppets” can be viewed on our video page right HERE..
The band also performed a “surprise jam” with superstars Jeff Beck, Aerosmith’s Joe Perry, Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Flea. Footage of the supergroup onstage at the ceremony can be viewed below.
Jason Newsted, along with the father of the late Cliff Burton were also included and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Controversy has been raised over original member, Dave Mustaine’s absence from the ceremony, who apparently declined his invitation. A tearful Jason Newsted thanked the past and current members of Metallica for his inclusion, expressing his gratitude “for giving me the opportunity to share the experiences of these amazing bountiful decades“. He also described his time with the band as one ”of Heavy Metal pioneership“, and how it allowed Metallica to “take our style of music to places it has never been before.”
Frontman James Hetfield described their inclusion as “living proof that it is possible to make a dream come true”, thanking ” all of Metallica, past and present“. The frontman/guitarist also said a special thanks to drummer Lars Ulrich for sharing what he described as ”dreams of being in the greatest heavy metal band in the world.”
Dedicating his inclusion to young musicians everywhere, Hetfield also said how he would like to see bands such as KISS, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Alice Cooper and Thin Lizzy to be the acts to enter the Hall next.
Guitarist Kirk Hammett thanked the band and fans for “their love and support“, describing his inclusion as “an honour“. He also said how excited he was “to continue to create inspired music”, joking that this was “only the band’s half way point in their career.”
All members thanked the fans who have supported them through all of the ups and downs throughout the band’s history, citing that ”without you guys [the fans] this wouldn’t be possible!”
You can watch the rest of the acceptance speeches in all their glory below. Watching this makes you realise just how fucking awesome Metallica are, James Hetfield has spoken- KISS, Iron Maiden, we can see 2010 Hall Of Fame with your names on it. If Wanda Fucking Jackson can get inducted then surely some of the biggest selling bands in the history can make it through…
Is there anyone who you think needs to make it to the 2010 ceremony?

Continuing the Metallica-Jason Newsted saga.
UPDATE: A Warner Brothers Records spokesman has just confirmed that “
“Jason and Robert will both be playing METALLICA‘s induction songs.”
Hmm, seems like they can’t get their story straight. Either this is all one massive publicity stunt (hey, it’s working well) or the band themselves don’t really know what’s going on… who would you prefer to see playing at the ceremony? Current Metallica, Black Album-era Metallica or Both?
Despite previous reports indicating that all of Metallica- including ex-bassist Jason Newsted- will perform together at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Ceremony, Newsted has now confirmed that he will completely replace current bassist Rob Truijillo during the performance.
In an interview with Reuters/Billboard, the ex-bassist explains that he got a call from drummer Lars Ulrich, asking him to join the band: ”He said, ‘We want you to rock with us.“ Lars then told him that the band’s current bassist, Rob Truijillo “‘is not gonna play at all. We want you to play.’ And my first question was, ‘How’s Robert with that? How does he feel about that? I don’t want to create any kind of negative anything. I want this all to be proper.’
“(Ulrich) said, ‘No, he’s with it, man. He wants to be there as a fan, too, and wants to see the ‘Black’ Album band’…It’s all good. Everybody’s agreed to it. Let’s rock!’ ‘OK. Let’s rock.’”
Newsted also discusses his surprise at being asked to play at all, saying: “I just planned on going, looking good in my suit, hanging out with my family, going up and getting the award, making a nice speech…”
Prior to the call from Lars, it seems that Newsted was more than happy to see his ex-bandmates represent Metallica: “[I felt strongly] because they’re strong right now, together. Those four guys in Metallica are out there knocking the shit down, standing tall, able, prowess, chops are in order … There aren’t many times the Hall of Fame can induct a band that’s fully capable like that.”
Ah, isn’t he a modest guy? We wonder how Rob really feels being kicked out for a one-night-stand, he’s approximately the size of Godzilla, but still not even giant lizards like to feel like they’re not wanted anymore.
Are you happy to see ‘The Black Album’ band back?

Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has revealed in a new interview with Rolling Stone that he is still a fan of the band and has never looked back since he left nine years ago.
The bassist told Rolling Stone: “I tell you very honestly, 1 billion percent, I have never regretted leaving Metallica.”
The interview comes after the news that Newsted will join his former band-mates as Metallica are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame on 4th April. Both parties have also announced that there will be a special performance at the ceremony, where Newsted will join the band, including current bassist Rob Truijillo.
Jason also said: “[Leaving] was the right thing for everyone. It was the right thing to do for the camp, that’s it. I’ve never told anyone that I wanted to go back or anything like that, not once. I made up my mind. It was not an easy thing to do, but it was something I had to do. I thought about it very much before I pulled the trigger, and because of that, I have never looked back. The past is where its supposed to be.”
Speaking about his time away from the band, the bassist said: “I was one of the biggest fan of the band before I went in, and I’m a Metallica fan still. “I was always the one person in the world who had an inside look and an outside look at the band, at the same time, and now, I’ve been out for a while, and I’m able to be a fan again.”

The big wigs at Activision have just released new commericals for their latest guitar hero subjects, Thrash-legends Metallica.
The ads are there to promote the new game which was released in the US yesterday and which unfortunately won’t be out in Europe until May. Consisting of 28 songs of head-banging goodness from Metallica, along with 21 tracks from some of their friends, including Slayer, Alice In Chains, System Of A Down and recent tour-buddies The Sword the game is set to be the loudest edition of GH ever made.
The newly-released commericals feature a few famous NCAA coaches, who to us Brits probably won’t be name-dropping worthy, but still Roy Williams, Rick Pitino, Mike Krzyzewski and Bob Knight feature with the Metallica men. Check the second vid out below.
Well worth a look, if not entirely for James Hetfield’s stab at the world’s best on-screen dialogue, “put on some pants, pops.” Poor Rob doesn’t even get a line, he does get to look impossibly mean though.

Former Metallica bassist has broken his silence over him playing with the thrash icons for the first time in nine years when they get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next month. The popular 4-stringer had this to say: “The Black Album band will be back together and mow the shit down!”
Jason will be joined on the night by another former ‘Tallica bassist Ron McGovney as well as the father of the deceased Cliff Burton, the band’s most iconic bass-wielder. Dave Mustaine is the only former member not being inducted into the Hall of Fame, though a nod for his Megadeth achievements surely can’t be far away.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, Newsted said: “I talked to Lars, and it’s all good”, he added, “I was happy to hear from him. I hadn’t talked to him for a long time, so it was nice to hear his voice.”
It seems that metal can overcome any personal obstacles, except those with Dave Mustaine on the other side. Don’t worry dude, we love you!

Sonisphere have announced plans to give away three pairs of weekend camping tickets to the UK festival.
In an unusual twist, the competition will be a game of finders keepers, with three USBs (or Stickets) being planted at three London gigs this weekend. Clues to where the Stickets will be planted can be found on Sonisphere‘s Twitter account, where clues will be posted about 24 hours before the gigs start.
The Sonisphere team had this to say: “Make sure your phone is Twitter enabled and take your rock lovin’ sonofabitch self out on the town and you might just get to see the hardest face-to-the-gravel guitar shredding line-up this summer has to offer for free”.
Whoever wins the tickets will gain entry to the Metallica and Linkin Park headlined event. The festival, which takes place in Knebworth on the 1st and 2nd August, boasts names such as Nine Inch Nails, Machine Head and Bullet For My Valentine, with more special guests still to be announced.
We like this Charlie and The Chocolate Factory/Easter Egg hunt style game, kudos to whoever wins- and if you do, please let us know where you found them!
Check the Sonisphere Website for full details of the festival and competition.

Bay Area Thrash legends Metallica have released the video for new single “Broken, Beat and Scarred” The band had this to say on the videos release:
“We’re having so much fun out on the road that we thought, hey, why not film it for the video of our next single? So we invited our good friend Wayne Isham and his crew to join us for a few shows in California in December of 2008 . . . Ontario and Fresno to be exact. We go way back with Wayne (several vids from the “Black” album up through “Frantic” and the “Cunning Stunts” DVD) and as always, Wayne rocked it!”
It’s a stunner of a clip and here at Fancore we’ve got your back, so if you haven’t already then click on the video above and treat yourself to some thrash armageddon!

Metallica have extended the chance to win free tickets and backstage passes to fans of all the remaining European shows.
Originally intended just for the UK, the band are now allowing even more fans the chance to win.
Posted on their official website, Metallica said: “It’s pretty easy, go to https://www.pushentertainment.com/184, fill out the info, and put your copy of “Death Magnetic” in your computer (Mac or PC) before you hit enter. The catch here is that you must have purchased your CD in the country you would like to win for and you can only enter for one show.”
Fans will be contacted the day before the gig if successful. Good Luck Europe! BACKSTAGE PASSES for free? It’s pretty much too good to be true, (we’re being told that is infact true though, so don’t worry).

Haven’t we all at some point, had something so important that we knew we had to tell someone. And we all knew, although we didn’t ever say it, that the person in question was Lars Ulrich. No? Just us?
Well regardless of your Metallica preferences, Rock Immortal are giving all fans a chance to create a digital piece of their mind as a tribute to the latest Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees.
Whether it be videos, photos, stories, rants…you can post whatever you want to the band, and hey it’s not just for Metallica, you can post to any of this year’s inductees- if you want to post something for Wanda Jackson, hell, we’re not gonna stop you.
Also check the website if you want any info about the ceremony itself, sadly they don’t have a Jason Newsted section just yet.

Main Metallica axe-man Kirk Hammett has confirmed that ex-bassist Jason Newsted will perform with the band at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame ceremony.
Newsted was already confirmed as attending the ceremony by the band, which caused forums around the world to explode with rumours about a potential hook-up. Fans have been answered, as Kirk tells The Pulse Of Radio: “Jason Newsted will be there, and he will be playing with us at one point”.
Hammett also explained why the decision was made, saying: “We don’t want any [drama], because it puts a really bad, sour note on the whole celebration itself”.
The thrash-legends are set to be inducted into the much-acclaimed Rock and Roll Hall OF Fame on 4th April, by Red Hot Chilli Peppers‘ bassist Flea.
All eyes will be on the ex-bassist’s first on-stage return to the band since leaving in 2001. Will they all be happy families again? Where will Rob even stand?

Metallica mainman James Hetfield has revealed the illness that forced him to cancel the band’s last date of the European tour may have been due to “a bad oyster”.
Just how bad this particular oyster is has yet to be announced. We’re thinking it’d have to be pretty badass to take down Hetfield.
Thankfully Metallica have promised that the cancelled show will be rescheduled, so Swedish fans don’t have to rampage through the sea just yet.
